About Me

My name is Stephen Saunders and I was educated at Christ's Hospital, Horsham, West Sussex; 1968 to 1975.  I learned to pay almost pathological attention to grammar, spelling, punctuation and syntax.  Typographical errors leap off the page like a Henry Cooper left hook. Poor English offends me; sloppy spelling, badly constructed sentences, and a lack of understanding of how to write properly are commonplace.

Many websites are riddled with mistakes, and some are dreadful, see Wildfire in my examples page.  The most common errors include confusing your and you're, there and their, neither of which is likely to be picked up by Spell-Check. However some, while possibly grammatically correct, are painful in their content.

Jargon: Jargon is for people in the know, therefore it excludes others.  Eliminate it if you want to be accessible to more customers.  Similarly, phrases like "issues around" or "delivering real time solutions" are excruciating to some people and will put them off.

The difference between an intellectual and a pseudo-intellectual is that the former is able to inform others about a subject in words of few syllables, concisely and simply, keeping their attention and interest. The pseudo-intellectual will attempt the same thing using long words, in convoluted sentences, saying much to impress but conveying little, and the audience will be precious little the wiser.

It is better to be understood by all, than to impress a few.

I have worked for many successful entrepreneurs who run complex businesses that make fortunes. Many of them left school without 'O' levels and acknowledge that they have no idea how to write properly. They have their skills; I am happy to help them with mine.  I can do so for you.
